Art Gallery of Alberta
Design of the 83,000 sq. ft. expansion and modification to the renamed Art Gallery of Alberta was a result of an International Design Competition won by Randall Stout Architects, a firm based in Los Angeles, CA.
The expansion added 30,000 sq. ft., with the existing 53,000 sq. ft. undergoing extensive renovations.
The expansion scope added a new restaurant and café, retail shops, 150-seat theatre, art education centre, premier exhibition spaces and sculpture gardens.
RJC Engineers provided building envelope design input and site review services.
A key element of RJC’s scope included choosing materials that would convey the architectural vision, withstand under the region’s weather, and tolerate extreme temperature changes.
