Canyon Falls Middle School
RJC was engaged by the Central Okanagan School District No.
23 for building enclosure and roofing consulting services for this new 88,792 sq. ft. school in Kelowna.
The $38.1M school features 21st Century learning and was constructed within a quick 16 month timeframe.
Canyon Falls Middle School accommodates 750 grade six to eight students and helps address the over-crowding of educational facilities happening in the Okanagan/Mission region.
It was crucial that the new school layout had flexibility in the spaces which resulted in the creation of a series of interdisplinary learning “pods” where groups of classrooms open into a large, collaborative maker space. The exterior appearance of the school is defined with aluminum composite panels, a bold green accent colour, copper toned glazing frames and ground-level masonry.
Subtle nods to the poles that uphold grapevines through the Okanagan were incorporated through angled columns for the roof overhangs.
