Indigenous Peoples Experience Wins International Themed Entertainment Association Award
- Details
The Indigenous Peoples Experience at Fort Edmonton Park will be awarded an international Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) Thea Award. RJC is the structural engineer.
“The awards represent excellence, innovation and leadership in the creation of compelling places and experiences,” said TEA International Board President Chuck Fawcett.
The prestigious TEA Thea Award is considered one of the greatest honors in the themed experience industry. TEA announced the new slate of TEA Thea Awards recipients to an international crowd at a press conference during the annual IAAPA Expo in Orlando.
The Indigenous Peoples’ Experience (IPE) at Fort Edmonton Park is Canada’s largest most interactive cultural centre and naturally landscaped attraction, displaying the life and history of both First Nations and Métis people and their stories. The vision for the IPE is a living museum with year-round programming for public, tourism, and educational opportunities. The IPE includes dedicated new buildings containing First Nations and Métis exhibits, programming, artifacts, graphics and media to bring the halls to life and offer a more complete picture of the role of Indigenous people in the development of the Edmonton region. The IPE offers learning spaces to support additional Indigenous programming and learning opportunities for schools and community groups to utilize.
The Fort Edmonton Park Indigenous Peoples Experience provides visitors an immersive learning opportunity through a year-round indoor space. The indoor space is equipped to simulate snow, wind and sounds. There is an outdoor amphitheatre for storytelling and a village surrounding a man-made pond. Other components of this exhibit include a food lodge, bison point, a fort, trading post, metis culture hall and camp, treaty lodge, trapper’s cabin and metis cabin.
