Union Station Train Shed Renovation and Atrium

The existing train shed at Canada’s busiest transportation hub was built in the 1920s and is a designated heritage structure.

RJC acted as contract administrators for the project and provided ongoing engineering services to Ferguson Neudorf, the specialist contractor responsible for the project's centre piece; the 6,000 sq.ft. glass atrium enclosure.

RJC’s role involved our team working closely with several trades and suppliers to ensure a coordinated effort and ongoing construction with minimal disruptions.

Utilizing phased construction delivery, work involved replacement of the entire existing roof, installation of the glass atrium, refurbishment of the existing platforms, installation of accessibility platforms, and replacement of existing vertical access elements to improve operations and customer service.

RJC’s Structural Glass and Facade team were responsible for the detail glass engineering and production of shop drawings for the glass components of the atrium.
