Abbotsford Recreation Centre

The Abbotsford Community Recreation Center project is a 58,000 sq. ft. addition to the existing pool and arena complex.

The 2-storey expansion included additional gymnasiums, workout areas, senior, youth and children programming areas, a cafe, as well as an elevated running track overlooking the double height gymnasium and reception area.

In order to achieve the architectural requirement for additional space and a long span gymnasium, RJC’s team of structural engineers assisted in creating an open entrance featuring tree-type columns along the spine of the building.

The expansion also included one new level of partially exposed underground parking for the new and existing recreation facilities, which utilized an economical precast core slab system.
