Linear House
Patkau Architects envisioned a one-of-a-kind residence in full complement with the surrounding natural landscape of a remote 16 acre farm site on BC’s Salt Spring Island.
Working to create this 84-metre long and 6.7-metre wide one-storey residence, totaling 6,300 sq. ft. on a remote site, RJC’s engineers created innovative spliced panel web beams which enabled very large spans in the structure, bringing Patkau’s vision to impressive fruition.
Honoured with a BC WoodWORKS!
Wood Design Award, RJC helped overcome the perception that a wood based structure is not capable of or efficient enough for addressing large spans, in particular for a project built on a remote site faced with transportation and equipment limitations.
