MNP Tower
This collaboration with MCMP Architects and Kohn Pederson Fox (KPF) showcases RJC’s creative thinking.
Located at 1021 West Hastings, the MNP Tower is a 35-storey, 290,000 sq. ft. Class AAA high-rise office tower constructed on a very narrow site in the heart of downtown Vancouver. The tower retains historic elements through the preservation of the University Club’s brick facade at the ground floor.
The MNP Tower was completed in 2015 with a construction budget of $75 million.
Highlighting creativity, our engineers utilized the volume created by the curved architectural roof form to house a roof top outrigger system.
This truss system connects the central concrete shear walls to the perimeter columns at the roof level. The load delivered to the perimeter columns is controlled by state of the art Buckling Restrained Braces that capacity protect both these columns and the truss connections at the core walls. This design innovation, not previously seen on towers in Vancouver, succeeded in reducing demand on, and therefore size of, the central core.
This increase in efficiency was important given the limited size of the site that was available.
