36 Toronto Street Heritage Renewal
The building at 36 Toronto Street, also known as the Excelsior Life Building, is a heritage designated 12-storey commercial office building built circa 1914 by prominent Toronto architect, E.J.
Lennox.
The exterior cladding system is comprised mostly of terracotta stone with granite cladding on the ground floor.
Decorative terracotta columns exist between the storeys as well as the North building entrance.
A major reconstruction project was completed in 1986-1987 by Strong Associates Architects which included the construction of a central glass atrium.
As the prime consultant, RJC was retained to provide design, tendering, contract administration and construction review services for this 2014 project that involved the heritage restoration of the exterior building elements.
