St. Andrew's-Wesley United Church Heritage Conservation & Seismic Upgrade

St. Andrew’s-Wesley United Church was constructed between 1931 and 1933 and is a designated heritage building by the City of Vancouver.

RJC has been working with St. Andrew’s-Wesley United Church since the late 1990’s, assisting with masonry repairs, roofing replacement, seismic evaluations, leak investigations, plaster stabilization, and capital planning.The heritage conservation and seismic upgrade project started as a roofing and interior plaster finish replacement project.The intent was to address leaks and consequential damage to the interior plaster.

The scope grew as it became evident that with the interior finishes and roofing removed this was an opportune time to complete a seismic upgrade.

RJC was engaged as the Prime, Structural, and Building Enclosure consultants for the project.

RJC led a team that included an architect, heritage, electrical, mechanical, code and acoustic consultants.The design was fast-tracked with construction starting less than nine months after go-ahead for design.In addition to the seismic upgrade, the project included a new copper roof, interior plaster finish replacement, low-slope roofing replacement, preservation of the stained glass windows, lighting upgrades, mechanical and electrical upgrades, new flooring and seating, an additional new organ, several general building upgrades and repair, repointing and restraint of the masonry.Because the church is on the Vancouver Heritage Register, the work was completed in accordance with the prepared Heritage Conservation Plan.
