The last decade of growth in Cochrane has put new demands on the Town and its transportation network.

Ongoing residential development continues to push further south, dividing the town across the Bow River and adding new traffic to existing routes.

In an effort to improve connectivity, traffic volumes, and emergency access, the Town of Cochrane constructed a new roadway between the north and south crossing the Bow River.

RJC provided the bridge engineering for the river crossing, which has a three span arrangement with a total length of ~160m.

Innovative design features include semi-integral abutments, stainless steel deck reinforcement and geogrid stabilized approaches.RJC completed the structural design of all elements including foundations, piers, girders, road deck and guards in accordance with the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code.

To keep up with future demand, the project team recommended a phased project delivery with two parallel bridge spans constructed at different times.
